History

(The following are purely my recollections. I have a horrible memory…)

-Travian Beginings

The Dot’s originated in late 2007 on the browser game “Travian” (we only support the .us servers, note that you do not need to live in the United States to access this server, http://travian.us/) in travian.us server 2. There, MANERS started mid-game. Unable to find an alliance due to his status as a newb and small village, he decided to create his own, naming it The .hackers (pronounced “Dot Hackers”) after a popular anime. This alliance grew much faster than anyone could have predicted.

-Travian Betrail

After getting almost thirty members, two members of the alliances (one named “t.v.” the other “New Rome Empire”) revolted. They left they alliance suddenly, and joined one of a much higher rank. The began threatening our members with a note that, in short, said “join or die”. They spread lies, attempting to make the alliance their own. The ultimately failed when we realized that the strongest members of the enemy alliance were inactive (we learned this via some person speaking a different language… Google Translator comes in handy, lol). Trust and perseverance were the keys to our victory. But this was not the last of the two, or at least New Rome.

-Expantion

Soon the .hackers became too large (forty or more members) for me to control alone. A personal friend of mine who went by the name of Cheddar stepped up to plate and helped me more than i could ask. We realized that we needed a wing (another alliance that works as a branch of another one to avoid the sixty member maximum) in order to grow. We discussed the subject in school the next day, and I think it was him that said it would be cool if we kept the “dot”. Then he asked me what was something close to the name ”hackers”, and the only thing I could think of was “modders”.

-The First Website

Travian alliances have forums integrated, but things become tricky when there are multiple alliances working together. We decided that external forums would be for the best. I found a good site and got some set up, but a few weeks later they went down for maintenance for the second time. After doing more research I found a better free host with better uptime and more features. (Best phpbb hosting, though they are phpbb2, http://forumsland.com/.) We skinned up the forum with a cool black and green theme and added a logo to fit the color design using a crappy wordart generator. The name on the banner? “Dot Gamer Clan”, for all of our alliance divisions began with a “dot”.

-A Sad, Sad Little Boy

In short, New Rome Empire begged me to let him own a wing of the alliance, which he named the .pixels. He never was active in the clan, so I made sure to keep his alliance weak. I suspect he only wanted protection.

-Endgame

The world was falling apart around us as PH (Power House, a huge alliance, one of the biggest group of wings in Travian history) destroyed  all those around them. When end game began (the ideas is to get one of the seven world wonders and get it to level 100 first, then the server restarts), they instantly owned all but one or two World Wonders. The alliance gave up hope, and the players spread throughout travian.us, only after sending every troop we owned at PH for a petty last stand.

Turns put PH fought back the entire server successfully. It also turns out that a good three-fourths of the PH alliances were owned by a gaming clan called the Purple Dragons. You can say they wre my insperation for going this far with the clan.

-And so…

The highest level people in s2 restarted together. We played together for quite a few months, but ultimately went our separate ways. I (MANERS) went on to creating an Xfire clan, and a few in-game clans, but I never looked into truly making them into a single community. Today is where we begin a tradition of friendly, fun, and (mostly) free gaming with our friends!

Behind the Name

The name “Dot Gamer Clan” was taken from the names of our old travian alliances the .hackers, .modders, and .pixels. The following is the background story behind the original alliance, the .hackers.

One of the most popular anime in the world is called .hack (again, pronounce the period as “dot”). It has many different story lines based in and around a futuristic MMORPG called “The World”, where you wear a pair of 3d glasses and a controller to play. But this is a game that servers not only run theirselves, they are never touched by people at all, and wont let maininance be done to them. An AI (artificial intellegence) runs and controls the rules of the game, and the admins and monderators only destroy hackers (where they must fight in-game and defeat the hackers manually with modified banning weapons, much like our very own Bann Hammuh) and create events for players to enjoy.

The .hackers are part of this game’s lore. The page at http://dothack.wikia.com/wiki/.hackers described it the best (here is an excerpt):

“The .hackers is the name given to the group who, according to players of The World, solved the final mystery of The World. In reality, the .hackers saved The World from destruction and resurrected the comatose victims. It is the legend of the .hackers that is most talked about by players in the Legend of the Twilight era, effectively replacing the Descendants of Fianna, who have been all but forgotten.

The origin of the name is unknown, but it was spread by those who witnessed the battle between Kite’s party and Corbenik in the ? Server.”
