Global Agenda: Sandstorm Patch Improves Trial Experience

After you finish the tutorial, the game, instead of throwing you in front of a mission booth and telling you to do the same mission over and over again, now throws you in front of some general guy who has a marker on him. Upon talking to him you are givin a string of short missions that I didn’t even read; I just followed the markers around the dome. After two minutes I ended up back at the general, him telling me to go through the huge gates to the Sondran Desert outside the dome and talk to some girl. I go out, am amazed at the environment. Dust flowed everywhere across the multilayerd landscape. Yellow covered differnent broken structrures. Through the map I saw a marker. It took me only twenty seconds to get to it with my jetpack.

Talking to the girl with the marker above her head began a series of short but sweet and challenging missions. First I had to go and kill a few enemies then come back; standard MMO stuff, but the cool mechanics (jetpacks, unique weapons depending on your class, etc) and the fact that the enemies could actually kill you made it feel fresh and new. Next I was given the task of building a computer with parts, but I had no clue where to get the parts. I went around the small village collecting quests, then opened my quest log (“L”) to view what I needed to do. It just so happened that the rewards in the quests I had just collected built the computer for the first quest, so I selected what seemed the easiest, told the game to track it, found the marker on the map (“N”), and went on my way.

The most notable of the quests were:

  • Going in a spider hole to kill giant mechanical spiders. These spiders launched several grenades at you that, if more than one hit, would kill you on the spot. Learning to dodge these took a few deaths (did I mention there is no death penalty besides respawning at a base?), but I did it. I suggest doing this one with a friend.
  • Going in a giant hole (different from last) to kill a bunch of humanoid robots. It was just a cool site to see from above since it had a purple-glowing generator in the center.
  • Going to find a person’s truck and finding several quests there, including kill a boss that threw rocks and ran at you with an axe.

Levels were easy to come by. It seems that no one is quite sure of what the level cap is for the trial (which has unlimited play and more than on character slot), bt it’s at least 12 and is at max 15. It’s not high enough to get you into real PvP (you can still play the practice PvP, though), but the new zone is fun enough without it. The patch is 3 gigs if you had the game beforehand, and you can now download the trial from either the official Global Agenda site or from Steam.

Here are some notes about the game that may help you:

  • You may not be able to switch your skill trees in pvp or the dome without talking to the skill store clerk, but you can whenever you want in the Sondran Desert zone. Change your skills to your jetpack to make it more efficient when traveling, then back to your fighting preferences when going into battle.
  • You can change your sever by going into one of the pods on the right side when looking at the door to the desert. Make sure you and your friends are on the same servers! They like to randomly change when you restart your game.
  • Run when you are outnumbered so you can heal up while hidden. It saves you the trouble of having to respawn.
  • Go through places with enemies slowly and surely. They enemies in Global Agenda are more lethal than CPUs in most games and should be treated as such. More then two on you can lean to a quick death if you are not careful and some bosses can kill you in just two hits!
